Duncan Takes Iowa Momentum to Colorado
Bakersfield, CA - President Calvin Coolidge was
quoted as stating, "Nothing in the world can take the place of
persistence. Persistence and determination alone are
omnipotent. The phrase 'press on' has solved, and will always
solve problems...". NASCAR Grand National West driver, Mike
Duncan is pressing on this weekend at the NAPA 150 in Erie, Colorado,
and he hopes that persistence -and the momentum
from the exciting race in Iowa two weeks ago (fifth
place finish) - will also be along for the ride.
Duncan sits third in the West points standings, has three poles out of
five races and enjoyed the thrill of racing hard with three of his
fellow Bakerfsield drivers in the top five for a bit in Iowa - Kevin
Harvick, David Mayhew and Eric Richardson - yet, what Duncan and
his # 9 Lucas Oil/Ron's Rear Ends/greenfrogroastingco.com
Chevrolet team is still searching for is the ever-elusive consistency.
Duncan won the Colorado event in 2004 with a record race
time of 54 minutes 43 seconds, yet he feels compelled to
admit that, "...Lots of teams here will have a shot at it this
year...nobody will be 'out to lunch' this weekend." Duncan went
on to say that," It's been a few years since we won it here, and a lot
has changed - if we win it this year, so many variables will have to
match up correctly."
After two weeks of reflecting back to the mid-west trip
to Elko (MN) and the Iowa race, Duncan simply wishes he would have more
time to get the set up right. In Iowa, Duncan says, "Things
went well for us - the tire strategy, the pits, some good timing and
great communication helped us come out of there with a nice
finish." Mike went on to say that leading the race in Iowa
was a thrill, and added, "That was a great view! Coming out of
turn four, with that huge crowd in front of you and a clean look at the
track...awesome!"
In response to a question about the 2007 GNDW competition, Duncan had
this to say:"I certainly have a lot of respect for these drivers.
Everybody has a shot to win every race, and that makes for an intense
points race, and that's what every series - in any racing level -
is hoping for." As for his MB Duncan Motor Sports
team, the boss is working to stay in the top rung of points
leaders and have a shot at his third West championship.
Duncan's last thought before getting some pre-race sleep leaned
towards persistence when he said, "We know what we have to do - we
just have to go out and do it and not shoot ourselves in the foot."
The persistence of Duncan and his team should be the key in
Colorado.
Mike Duncan was the NASCAR Grand National Division Rookie-of-the-Year
in 2000. Behind the leadership of two-time Grand National Champ,
Bill Sedgwick, Duncan and team won the 2004 – 2005 championships.
Together, they compete full time on the Grand National West
series. To learn more about Mike and follow his season, please
